Anxiety and depression are the two most common complaints by people seeking counseling. As someone who has suffered from both of these symptoms in the past, I am acutely aware how easy it is to get caught up in the thoughts that keep the cycle of anxiety and or depression in motion.
What is anxiety? Some of symptoms are incessant worrying about the future and past, nervousness, difficulty sitting still, and a feeling of the heart racing.
What is depression? Some of the symptoms are lack of concentration or focus, too much sleep or lack of sleep, a general feeling of hopelessness, and lack of enthusiasm for life.
What anxiety and depression have in common is distorted thinking. We all have thoughts and find that many of them cause us to suffer needlessness. As Mark Twain said, “I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” When we learn to stop, pause and question our thoughts, anxiety and depression decrease.
Give yourself the gift of a minute or two of pausing. Many people find if they build this into their life, it can act as a prevention mechanism against depression and anxiety. Clients reports that the more often they take the a few minutes to reflect and bring their attention to their breath, the more clarity and peace of mind they noticed.
Teaching people the skills of learning how to heal themselves is a profound.
